The 36 to 44 inch Dexter is one of the smallest bovine breeds and is a great family project for people living on small acreages excited to start their own hobby farm.  They only require 1/2 an acre of green grass or 10 lbs hay and some daily grain.  They do great in both cold and hot climates.  In exchange they can give between 1 and 3 gallons of milk per day (cows can be tested for A2A2 milk gene and many have it!)  Their beef is lean and with excellent flavor yielding between 50 and 60%.  Because of their small size and friendly temperament they are safer than most breeds and easy to keep, adding to their appeal!
